Concluding that God had called us...

Acts 16:1-10

Jesse Lackey and his family will remember the events of today longer than most of the rest of us.  As I write this he waits, more or less patiently, to learn about his immediate future.  The plane he and three mission teammates took to Narita airport in Japan was diverted to an American Air Force Base.  On their way to work on an orphanage in Manila, Philippines, they were grounded as the Japanese airport closed due to a record 8.0 Richter earthquake.  They face more than 24 hours on this plane in miserable conditions.

Paul intended to travel east to preach the Gospel in what we now call northern Turkey.  The Holy Spirit stopped him.  Then the Spirit relayed a call for help from Macedonia, west, across the Aegean Sea.  Paul and his companions then traveled down the landmass we call Greece planting churches that would receive some of our favorite letters from Paul.

It seems important to consider that being "led by the Spirit" sometimes means being "stopped by the Spirit." When Jesse returns home he will likely have some amazing stories to tell about how God surprised them.  He may remind us that God's plans are bigger than our own.

Has the Spirit ever stopped you in order to use you in a surprising way?
