Today's discussion question: How did the attention on Peter make his actions worse?
Neither James nor Paul want to discourage us from taking leadership positions for which God has prepared us. Rather, they want us to remember our responsibility to those we influence. A hundred years of experience and research has taught us that the sponsor/sponsee relationship in AA benefits the sponsor more. Knowing the potential impact a personal relapse could have on a sponsee, the sponsor will more likely avoid the steps that set one up to fail.
During the 40 days till Easter, we do well to recommit ourselves to leading by righteous example. We do not seek self-righteous smugness. We seek to live in the character of Christ praying to influence others to do the same.
To remind us that begins at home I offer a video that made me tear up. Some of us are critical of the often shallow and cliche' nature of Christian music. Look past any of that and consider the truth lying in the depth of these lyrics. Click on the song's title: Slow Fade.
