Joy and Sorrow (from Tuesday)

Psalm 30:5 Portrayals of Christians in the media often frustrate me. Whether it on the news or in a drama or sitcom, Christian characters rarely look like the people I work and worship with at Oak Ridge. As life-issues have become more complex and global awareness of atrocity and societal breakdown has grown, Christians have too few strong and competent voices on the national and international stage. And, we are portrayed as either withdrawing into our comfortable cocoons or boldly addressing topics far removed from general concerns. But that is not how you act. How do you stay engaged in another's pain? How do you find strength to become a child-advocate with CASA? How do you serve lunch to hungry neighbors at Center of Hope? How do you love on a friend or relative as they suffer and die of cancer? How do you keep joy and sorrow as two sides of the same coin?

Humor and memories have helped us
get thru Nathan's passing.( We do
have our break down days,) Sometimes one of us is having a down day and not knowing about it will call with something funny and it brightens our day. Kathleen has
been amazing, losing her son and then trying to keep us going. I hope I am doing the same for her.

On a different story, when the boys
and I were in Dallas, we were on the bus, the man was quite grumpy
but nothing was ever mentioned to
Dillon about him being so grumpy.
When we got of the bus Dillon said
"Thank you", it took him (and me)
by surprise and he actually had a little smile, so hopefully what ever was going on that day the simple Thank You seemed to help.

Our kids helped a lot of people during Spring Break with some
really big jobs, I am proud of them
and the hard work and touching their lives, but Dillon's simple
Thank You seemed just a big as the
help the boys did during Spring Break.
